On the 8 th of March in N‘Djamena, the capital city of Chad, peaceful demonstrators who were fighting for their right of assembly and freedom of speech, again had to face harsh violations of human rights including police violence: humiliations, beatings and killings. While the western media has virtually acclaimed the Chadian military as a brother of France in the battle against oppression in other Africa countries, exploitation and oppression of their own population in their own country has reached a new, sad height.
Brothers and sisters from and around Berlin: Come and join us! Now is the time to fight for our rights! And for the rights of our brothers and sisters in Chad! Stop the dictatorship and the capitalist system which again killed more than 3 students and led to the detention of more than 200 students since March 8 th in N‘Djamena! We are the Chad Youth in Germany. We are calling for a demonstration in front of the Chadian Embassy in Berlin, Germany, on March 18 th , 2015. at Oranienplatz 12 noon from Bundesplatz at 1.30 P.M. to Lepsiusstr. 114, the Chadian Embassy The demonstrations in Chad started on the 8 th of March because a new law was implemented by the government which makes everyone who rides a motorbike wear a helmet. And suddenly, at the same time this law occurs, the helmets cost about 4 times as much as they did before. This is why we, the Chad Youth in Germany, say: this is the capitalist, dictatorial system that rules Chad today! Students and other people who need their motorbikes to get to work – often earning less than 2 Euros per day – don’t have that kind of money. But if you get arrested without a helmet, the penalty you get will be even higher than the cost of a helmet. Of course people cannot afford this! So thelast consequence is that they take away your motorbike. That’s why the students and the poor people, who have hardly anything, went on the streets. But their demonstration was met with harsh police violence. The moment the first demonstrator got killed, the character and main reason of the demonstrations changed: now people are demonstrating against the 25-year-long dictatorship of Idris Deby, against his policies, which makes any step forward towards a real democracyimpossible! Deby degage! Deby must go! Since these demonstrators fight for their rights of freedom of expression, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and the end of the dictatorial, capitalist system of Deby, the police violence against the demonstrators is soaring. We have to see pictures and videos of detained brothers in Chad, students and other demonstrators, humiliated by police forces, forced to crawl on the ground and to cover themselves with dirt under the prevalent death threads of the police. Demonstrators are forced to roll over the ground while policemen beat them with clubs. We have reports of hundreds of detainees and several dead demonstrators. These human rights violations need to stop! Come and join us in our call against all these injustices! Let us build together a strong and loud voice that cannot be ignored any more!
